The Goodmans seem like a normal family: Diana takes care of the house, Dan it the breadwinner, their daughter Natalie dreams about escaping her hometown, and their son Gabe is a rebellious teenager. However, the Goodmans hide a family secret which starts to turn their world upside down. “Next to normal” is a rock musical about mental illness and its impact on every family member. The Broadway production became a sensation, hailed as a landmark in contemporary musical theatre. With its powerful social message, gripping story, and brilliant score, the show went on to win the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and three Tony Awards – the theatrical equivalent of the Oscars.
